The Astros estate covers 1680 acres, including 197 acres of vines and 24 acres of orchards in Vidauban, a commune located above St Tropez in the Var. Nestled in its heart, the Château d’Astros opens for the first time its doors to the public this Thursday, October 14, during the “Fascinant Weekend”. This national event, organised from October 14 to 17, promotes wine tourism in France and highlights wine estates. A not-to-be missed visit.
A unique opportunity to discover this Provencal gem.
It’s a small revolution for locals and Italian Renaissance enthusiasts: during 4 exclusive visits, they will be able to discover the park, the vineyard and the Provencal residence, famous in the eyes of film lovers as the setting for Yves Robert’s Château de Ma Mère (1990), an adaptation of the eponymous novel by Marcel Pagnol.
But beyond this image, it is a family home, still inhabited by Mr. Maurel, whose family has owned the land since 1802. Always discreet, he takes us exceptionally into his grandfather’s extraordinary life, a lover of art and society, who built the Château d’Astros in 1860, in the heart of the ancestral wine estate. A castle freely inspired by Toscan palaces, with sumptuous decorations, which hosted numerous sumptuous social functions during the 19th century.
As in a Provencal tale, once upon a time… the Château d’Astros.
